Allow me to introduce myself
My name is Sarah, and I am an (almost) graduate at Humber College in Toronto ON, Canada, planet Earth. I know I am an art director, but I also do have a passion for getting all my thoughts, emotions, etc etc on paper… for whoever has the time to read.
I was a little reluctant to writing this blog, because I thought to myself, “who wants to read this stuff anyways?” but I honestly just want to write out my journey, struggles, successes and failures for people who are in my position and need the guidance and something to relate to. There is something about sharing my experiences that really makes me happy. Also, I know I would love to read something like this, especially going through the challenge of finding a job in the advertising world.
The journey does not begin here, it began when I started my program 2 years ago. It took a lot of figuring out and soul searching to figure out what I truly wanted to do. I never knew exactly what I wanted to do when I was 18 and entering University. I changed my major 3 times before I decided that I wanted to double major in Fine Arts and Psychology. Throughout my years in University, I had some friends and classmates tell me that I should go into advertising, but I declined because my 20 year old self did not want to contribute to capitalism (back then I thought very differently). I decided to pursue clinical psychology instead… and that did not last long. I figured out soon after graduation that counselling was not a career for me. If anything, I would love to give advice to people and share my experiences in order to help them, but that’s as far as I’ll go.
All in all, I’m extremely happy with my decision to go into advertising. My passion for creativity and curiosity of human behaviour will help me thrive in my career. Now that I finished my Advertising and Graphic Design program at Humber, I am equipped with the tools to launch me into my career. I’m excited… but terrified at the same time. Anyone else feeling this?
